Shame about the weak ending. Why does No.6 destroy the ticker-tape machine? Does he thinks its some sort of hot line to No.1? We aren't told. Compared to the strong endings of other endings, its a real let down. Mary Morris and Norma West are amazing, though.

Okay. I've watched this one and it still isn't sticking in my mind.

I will say that the repetitions of things like not breaking Number 6 because they want him whole is okay for me, since most people were watching it weekly, rather than quickly together with enough focus to write reviews.

This episode certainly had a more upfront Orwellian tone than the background noise of conformity the show usually has.

I agree that this feels like an episode that should be shown VERY early in sequence. They even repeat the dictum from the first episode, "Questions are a burden, and answers a prison for oneself." He also interacts with maids quite frequently, and they drop out of sight in later episodes.

There is some good banter in this episode:

Number 2: Everything you want is here.
Number 6: "Everything's" elsewhere.

As for guest actors, it was good to see Aubrey Morris in this one (town crier and Caesar).

This *was* a very strange episode for "The Prisoner." I'm not sure I'd call it a filler episode, although it might have been. It was almost a second pilot ... for those who missed the premiere (which is why it fits much earlier in the timeline).

As always, a very good review.
Be seeing you.
Jas.
There is some good banter in this episode:

Number 2: Everything you want is here.
Number 6: "Everything's" elsewhere.

As for guest actors, it was good to see Aubrey Morris in this one (town crier and Caesar).

Preliminary response: Aside from the striking figure of Mary Morris, I don't actually recall this episode's details. This is in contrast to the many episodes I recall with great detail. Before commenting, I'm going to have to rewatch it sometime in the next few days.

Be seeing you.
JM of the Triskele Road
