Glad you enjoyed it. You can now get a box set of every episode on DVD (barring the original version of Kitten Kong). Hope you can get this, after which I look forward to reading more of your impressions of the series. Bill's musical collaborator at this stage was Mike Gibbs, btw.

The visual puzzle element of the old lady is something that I hope simply signifies 'chew' - but I admit could be read differently. I can never work out if the ambiguity was something intended as a bit of satire - I mean, along the lines of: 'If you were thinking of a different word then YOU are prejudiced - or if it had started out as a straight intention to use a stereotype which they later regretted and changed in the script. I sincerely hope it was the former. I'm not brave enough to ask Graeme!

That's TV repeated some of the BBC series.
It will be interesting to see how this episode stands for me when I've seen more. I did like the falling-off-the-bike gag - it caught me as, knowing the bike was associated with the series, I did just expect them to head off smoothly!

The Goodies have their duff moments but are generally brilliant. There is always some brilliant visual 'action' comedy as well as sight gags, funny lines and a few groaners.

The actual story part of The Beefeaters has never been a favourite of mine, but I love all the set up. Bill putting adverts in the Beano and Rubber Monthly. The lady downstairs taking messages - 'Dear Giddies' ("Can't she talk?" "She can't even write!"), the going-to-the-car gag, the falling-off-the-bike gag... Just magic!
