Radio Goodies is definitely a classic of the series, even though what the guys want is to start a radio station, the fact that it gets sidelined to run a postal service is actually pretty brilliant. the digs at the postal service are brilliant, and the notion of Graeme going full on supervillain i thought was hilarious. his monologue when he refers to Bill and Tim as ‘backsliding, revisionary, paper hyenas’ is one of my all time favorites. i sometimes quote it to this day, its left such an impression on me.

the set for Radio Goodies does resemble something that could have been utilized on Dr Who or even Blake’s 7.

and one can never hear ‘A Walk in the Black Forest’ again without thinking of this show.

I’m guessing Bill’s delivery as the DJ was based on that of Emperor Rosko, who would have been hosting a show on Radio One on Saturdays at the time. By the way, recently I’ve been noticing that Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie use ‘A Walk In The Black Forest’ (the only record Radio Goodies had) as an interstitial on BBC 6 Music.

I’m guessing that Bill in this episode is imitating Emperor Rosko, a fast-talking American DJ who had a weekend programme on Radio One.

Earlier posts on ‘The Goodies’ indicate that H.E. has the early DVD releases but not the complete box set, and favours going through the episodes in broadcast order. Unless that’s changed, H.E. only has access to two of the episodes you mention – ‘The Movies’ and ‘Earthanasia’ – and still has several other episodes to get through before reaching either of them.

Next, do “Hype Pressure.” Interesting episode, plus “The Movies,” “Invasion of the Moon Creatures,” “Clown Virus,” “Earthanasia,” and “Politics.” Or also add, “U-Friend or UFO?” And I think there should be a tribute to Tim, whose death came from COVID-19.

“Radio Goodies” is another popular and well-loved episode, and with good(ie) reason. And I have to admit, although I am a huge fan of all three Goodies, if I had to pick a favourite it would be Graeme.

I love the underwater radio station set too, H.E. You might be pleased to learn it was designed by Roger Murray-Leach, the man who designed the Liberator and also its flight deck set.
