I think series B of Blake,s seven would have been better served if the arch-villain Servalan had had a new lackey with a new name like Smith Jones Colby Fenner Williams Chandler or even Garfield . I also think Carnell from Weapon should have replaced Travis as Servaln,s minion or even I think the Federation officer Provine could have been brought into Blake,s Seven in Weapon and Provine could have easily replaced Travis

Countdown is amuch better episode than the previous episode which I loathed and never ever watch and also even Killer 2 episodes before countdown is preferable to the episode hostage and also this episode is free from both arch-enemy Servalan and her former henchman Travis who she unofficially employs to track down and kill Blake and his crew but the fact the regular villains are not in this episode makes this episode like Redemption Shadow Horizon and Killer arch-enemy free which is nice

It all ends happily ever after though. I can t really say that it s a predictable denouement, given that Pressure Point managed to take the rule book of survival and tear it into tiny shreds. But even the sight of Albians, Blake, Vila, Avon and Grant being dissolved by radiation may have been too hard for the young ones to take. Even with its slight hiccups though, Countdown is still a strong, enjoyable story, and with its significant subplots, makes it one of the more essential tales of season two.

I think I found it hard to place higher because the Grant/Avon narrative is the only thing really interesting to me. There are other stories that I have found problematic, and I'm mainly thinking of Shadow, which was overpacked with plots, yet was nonetheless more engaging. The episodes preceding Countdown have felt like they contributed something significant and/or just been very impressive, so this didn't appeal in the same way.

Fascinating read - as always. Interesting that you rank it so low - and you do explain why very clearly. It was always the Grant/Avon narrative that grabbed me the most at the time, even although I'd figured that Anna would turn out to be a relative/partner. And a shame that Jenna and Cally fail to get involved with the main action yet again...

All the best

Andrew
